Those who have growing boys completely understand what it’s like to have someone eat you out of house and home. However, I did not realize that girls did the same thing. You see, I am new at this parenting thing. Yes, I have a 10-year-old and a 5-year-old, but as I told my oldest once, I have never parented a 10-year-old before.
My oldest has been on a constant growth spurt since she was born. Her first year she doubled her weight, which is to be expected. However, after that she continued to grow a lot faster than even the doctor anticipated. By the age of two, she was already 36 inches tall. For most of her life, I have had to carry snacks around to feed her constant hunger from her constant growth.
Each year, my oldest averages about three inches of growth in height, though this year I think it’s more than that as she is now taller than her dad and me both. When she was younger and would get the hiccups, I would joke about getting a brick to put on her head to stop the growth. Now, I just accept that she is going to be really tall.
When she is going through a growth spurt, the amount of food she can eat in one sitting is simply amazing. She even out-eats her teenage male cousins, which is pretty funny to watch.
Recently, my dear princess has gotten into a growth spurt and is eating loads of food, too. I just make sure I have plenty of healthy, protein-filled options for my dear girls to eat and stay back for fear of being sucked into the vortex as they are feeding.
